  • How long do tests take to get results?
Test results are typically available within 24 hours, depending on the complexity of the analysis.
  • Does a survey damage a building?
Not necessarily. Most surveys are minimally invasive, but refurbishment and demolition surveys may require some material sampling, which can cause minor damage.
  • What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals known for their heat resistance, strength, and insulating properties. It was widely used in construction and manufacturing until its health risks became evident.
  • What are the different types of Asbestos?
The main types of asbestos are Chrysotile (white asbestos), Amosite (brown asbestos), and Crocidolite (blue asbestos). Other less common forms include Tremolite, Actinolite, and Anthophyllite.
  • How dangerous is Asbestos?
Asbestos is extremely dangerous when fibres become airborne and are inhaled. Prolonged exposure can lead to severe health issues, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma.
  • Can people work in a building while a survey is being carried out?
Yes, in most cases. However, for more intrusive surveys, such as refurbishment and demolition surveys, restricted access may be necessary to ensure safety.
  • How can I tell if my building has Asbestos?
You cannot confirm the presence of asbestos by sight alone. A professional asbestos survey is required to identify asbestos-containing materials in your building.
  • Do I have to have an Asbestos survey?
Yes, it is a legal requirement under UK law to have an asbestos survey in certain circumstances. This obligation is set out in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012), specifically under Regulation 4: Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises.
  • Can I sell my house with Asbestos?
Yes, but you must disclose the presence of asbestos to potential buyers. An asbestos survey can provide detailed information to help buyers understand the risks and management strategies.
  • Do I have to remove Asbestos once it is found?
Not necessarily. If asbestos-containing materials are in good condition and not at risk of being disturbed, they can often be safely managed in place with an asbestos management plan. However, if the materials are damaged or pose a risk, professional removal may be required. A qualified asbestos expert can advise on the best course of action.
